The engine has only been out for (A) year, it was introduced for the 2008 Caddy CTS and now Camaro and the Lambda quadruplets will have a version of it. Yea there will always be intakes and exhausts but precious little beyond that. The engine thats going into the base model Camaro has been out for years, theres nothing out for it in the existing cars that its in right now, pretty much anything that will be made will of course be for the V8 models just like the V6 mustang is the bastard step child. Thats the template that Ford laid out in 1964 and whenever the big 3 have gone off course from that its ended up bad or killing off the car.ġ989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85 I've always loved the pony cars for what they represent which is a V8 RWD thats affordability priced. If you got the money scoop up one as fast as you can because theres no guarantee how long this car is going to be out. Bob Lutz has already said, theres no way we can get 15% more efficiency from a RWD platform, it was too late to stop Camaro but future projects have already been canceled.įor 31k which is what the Camaro SS will be, I don't know how you could turn down 422hp anyway. The thought of a 4 in the Camaro has all the traditionalists panties in a bunch but you have to consider the world we live in, Manfs have much stricter fuel requirements to meet now. All other things being equal the LNF would be faster and more fuel efficient than the V6s if it were offered in the new Camaro. GM is coming out with a reflash for the LNF to bump it to 290hp. One could also make the argument that with the LNF (Cobalt SS engine) the VVT V6 being offered is a poor choice. My point is historically if you look at whats been offered as the V6 option in this car theres never been anything above 200hp, and that was only for the final few years. The new one won't that much of a laugher but with 281hp and 3800lbs its going to be about the same as the current Monte Carlo SS as far as performance. A real Camaro has a V8, thats what the car is, thats what its supposed to be.
